Equal Opportunities Policy

Blyth Valley CVS has an equal opportunities policy which aims to provide equality of treatment to all racial groups, women, the disabled and prevent discrimination in other areas. Its purpose is to ensure that there is no discrimination in access to employment or in employment practices.

POLICY:

1. Blyth Valley CVS recognizes that everyone has a contribution to make to our society and that they have a right to equality.

2. Blyth Valley CVS is an equal opportunity employer. Employees will be selected, promoted and treated on the basis of their relative merits and abilities. Where appropriate employees shall be given the opportunity to receive special training to enable them to progress within the organisation.

3. Our aim is ot ensure that no job applicant, staff member, volunteer, organisation or individual to whom we provide services will be discriminated against by us on the grounds of their, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, sex, marital status, childcare responsibilities, sexual orientation, age, disability or handicap, political belief, religion, class or employment status.

4. We shall work with other bodies on the elimination of discrimination in whatever form, as stated in 3.

5. Blyth Valley CVS will develop and initiate equal opportunities and where possible encourage others to undertake a similar policy, either through advice and/or training, and/or resources.

6. Blyth Valley CVS is willing to examine any aspect of policy or service where reasonable evidence is presented that discrimination might exist and to take appropriate action.

7. The Blyth Valley CVS Equal Opportunities Policy and its effects will be reviewed annually at the beginning of every year.

This updated Equal Opportunities Policy was agreed at the Executive Committee meeting on 25th January 1999.
